As an actor, Reiner first achieved widespread recognition for his portrayal of Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the CBS sitcom All in the Family (1971–1979), for which he won two Primetime Emmy Awards.

In 1971, actor and director Rob Reiner married Penny Marshall. Actress Tracy Reiner (A League of Their Own), a child from a previous union with Michael Henry, was adopted by him. In 1981, Reiner and Marshall were divorced.

While directing When Harry Met Sally, Reiner met Michele Singer, the photographer who would become his wife. In addition to changing the film’s finale as a result of the meeting, he also married Singer in 1989. Jake (born 1991), Nick (born 1993), and Romy are their three children (born 1997).

His parents were Carl Reiner (1922-2020), a well-known comedian, actor, writer, producer, and director, and Estelle Reiner (née Lebost; 1914–2008), an actress.

Reiner grew up in New Rochelle, New York, at 48 Bonnie Meadow Road; 148 Bonnie Meadow Lane served as the residence of the fictional Petrie family in The Dick Van Dyke Show, which Rob’s father wrote. He went to the UCLA Film School to study.
